An introductory workshop exploring the working characteristics of borosilicate glass, with lots of demo’s showing its potential for both beginners and the more experienced.
Learn how to bring out all those wonderful boro colours – no more mud!

Techniques covered will include:
- an exploration of the working characteristics of the glass
- how to ensure well made joins
- making and applying stringers and twisties
- exploring the boro colour palette, reactives, crayons and wysiwyg
- working with punties
- drilling holes through hot glass
- making beads
- making pendants, mushrooms, implosions, hearts etc.
- making small sculptures

All this will be interspersed with demonstrations of both solid and tube work in boro. Glass will be supplied.

Heard from gorgeous Gail of GoGlass and she’s planning a workshop with Chris Arnold in May or June.

Not sure if any of you big torch girls… or Boys…. are interested in a weekend with Chris Arnold from Melb in May but I am putting the feelers out.  I have spoken to Chris and we are working around the weekends of the 15th or 29th I think.  If there is any interest let me know.  His work is Nudibranch art. com etc. and he is absolutely Georgeous. as well as a great artist.  Does the Flame on at Kirra.

Thought I would let you know as you are getting interested in Boro.

Naturally anyone is welcome to stay here.

I think we are looking at 250 per day I will include some glass but I havn’t had the glass list for coloured boro yet. I am trying to keep the costs down for all.,

Chris does absolutely amazing work in boro and could be a great introduction to boro or a fantastic exploration if you’re already into boro.  Also have a look at his amazing work with plasma lighting – I’d love to do that!!!

MARBLE WORKSHOP
with Bernie Stonor

When: Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th May, 2010.

Beginning with small solid colour marbles we will learn how to form and shape the perfect sphere. Bernie will also show how to use a mandrel as a punty for anyone who is tired of struggling with glass punties.
We’ll be using soft glass, all supplied. Moretti will be used for the coloured marbles, and Bullseye and Reichenbach for the implosions. Bernie will show how to pull stringer from lumps of intensely coloured Reichenbach and use these to make beautiful crystal clear implosions using Schott clear.

STOP PRESS – Sarah’s ONLY stop for classes in Australia is in Canberra.
Her amazing classes in Canberra will be starting on Thursday 22/4/10

Her plans for Australia have changed. She will now be coming to Canberra in APRIL 2010 (not June as previously thought). The dates look like (not confirmed as yet) 22 April and possibly another weekend either side if numbers support it. I apologise for the rush, however, I need to gauge from you virtually immediately if you are coming to her workshops. At this stage I do not have an actual cost, as Australian and New Zealand studios are sharing her total international and domestic flight expenses. To give you an indication, we are looking at a BALLPARK figure $1400 – $1600 for 4 days. The end amount could be lower. I will know more when total numbers come in. It is all based on students attending. Due to the change in Sarah’s schedule she may be limited as to the time spent at the few venues being taught in Aust and NZ. Each workshop is 4 days so we want her here for a few sets of 4 days if possible. I will put a case forward based on numbers indicated by YOU. Please let me know straight away, so I can get in fast. At other venues you need to bring your own torch and equipment and glass. For Sarah’s classes here in Canberra I will be supplying everything in accordance with her requests. I am excited about Sarah, as I feel there are lots of us ready for this fabulous international teacher who has a knowledge that stretches the boundaries of colour and style in molten glass. Her classes are fabulous and if you look at what will be covered – it is shaping up to be a terrific 4 days. Again, I apologise for the rush, but in order to confirm Sarah Hornik in Canberra for her Australian and New Zealand tour, please may I have your yes or no answer BEFORE FRIDAY 4^th. December. Any questions please ask. If you know of anyone else who may wish to come please ask them to email me regarding their interest.
